The Tai Ho Alternative Plan is a private-led urban planning initiative designed as a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to the Government’s Tung Chung-Tai Ho Comprehensive Feasibility Study (CFS). Located on North Lantau, the project emphasizes “Clear Water Blue Sky” principles by integrating essential sustainable development features into the urban fabric. Unlike traditional ribbon-like developments, this proposal offers a more compact layout that significantly reduces the need for coastal reclamation and minimizes the impact on high-value marine and terrestrial ecosystems. The Masterplan strategically addresses critical environmental challenges, including vehicular emissions from the North Lantau Expressway, aircraft noise from Chek Lap Kok, and industrial noise from the Siu Ho Wan MTR Depot, through advanced mitigation measures such as noise barriers, building orientation, and podium structures. By prioritizing biodiversity conservation and efficient resource management, the Tai Ho Alternative Plan aims to create a peaceful residential sanctuary that balances economic growth with ecological integrity, setting a new benchmark for sustainable new town development in Hong Kong.
