The Central Park East Masterplan offers a dynamic vision for the last large redevelopment area within the emerging Shenzhen Central Business District, seizing the opportunity to create a mixed-use, regional destination integrated with surrounding civic uses and grand open spaces. The Masterplan creates not only a landmark within the CBD for the city, but also a flagship for the developer, Gemdale, to champion as a model for responsive urban mixed-use development to be implemented throughout China. The project would represent the client’s largest mixed-use development and offers a strategic methodology for integrating commercial anchors, entertainment, shopping streets, neighborhood services, class A office space, hospitality, and residential uses. Unlike other retail centers in Shenzhen, Central Park East draws upon natural walking distances as a primary design factor, especially between the major address of Shennan Road and the Gangxia MTR station. The urban design also focuses on the visual and physical connections to a major civic park, which is the heart of the formalistic CBD area.
