The Masterplan for Pudong Event City creates a new centre of commercial activity that redefines the skyline for visitors to Shanghai An 18-square-kilometre hinterland halfway between Pudong and the Pudong International Airport, the site of existing piecemeal development demanded an orienting sense of place and identity to establish a successful real estate model amidst otherwise plain, scattered, and industrial development. The Masterplan captures the network of canals to establish a central region of value and community that celebrates the sense of openness so close to Shanghai, focused around a mixed-use core of hotels and conferencing centres, retail, residential, and office uses, all marked by a signature 98-storey tower. This core is served by both a cultural retail cluster anchored by a historical church, and by a multimodal transit node that makes this an accessible destination by rail and water for all of Pudong.
