This Masterplan covers the three major areas of the Campus: West Campus (627 acres), East Campus (270 acres), and Scripps Institution of Oceanography (160 acres). It addresses the future development of buildings, open spaces, and infrastructure, and their potential to accommodate an increase of 23,000 in the daytime population in the next 25 years. This represents 4.5 million square feet of new academic facilities, plus on-campus housing for 8,000 students. On this basis, the Masterplan establishes: A framework for future development, including planning concepts and specific planning, design, and open space guidelines for the Campus and its subareas; Parking and housing strategies; Policies for addressing regional planning issues (e.g., adjoining public and private development, regional transit connections); An implementation plan that considers both the phasing of development, and regional transit connections.
