Bandar Seri Begawan is taking a major step to create a new vision and set a course to become one of the world’s most livable cities. This capital of Brunei Darussalam is stable, its citizens enjoy a high quality of life and education, its culture has built solid family values, and a belief that home is a place to extend hospitality. All of this is set in one of the most important global resources: the Borneo rainforest. The Masterplan is the intellectual resource for implementing that vision—a dream that, when realized, will place this capital city high on the list of livable cities worldwide by providing its population with better choices for living. This includes the refocusing of new development potential along the city’s natural assets: Sungai Brunei and Sungai Kedayan. Both are the lifeblood of this city’s future, as they have shaped its past. The Bandar Seri Begawan Development Masterplan consists of five volumes that together provide detailed analysis and information about the existing context, planning process, development vision, urban design and physical character, and implementation strategies for the future development of the capital city.
